ROBERT IHLANG POST 537  NEW LONDON, MN

Text Box: Greetings:
Another month has gone by and we are still thinking spring in Minnesota!! The month of May brings honor to our deceased Veterans with services at cemeteries on May 27th. The auxiliary will serve a breakfast for the Legion Honor Guard for Memorial Day Services. We would appreciate your help for the 7 a.m. breakfast.

Poppy day is Friday, May 10th. Ruby Johnson and Jeannette Fixsen would like you to volunteer to help hand out poppies at different locations. Donations accepted that day must be used for Veterans programs. Poppies remind us of the ultimate sacrifice made by our military.

Georgia Holm, daughter of Todd and Victoria Holm, was selected to be our Girl’s State participant. Girls State is held June 9-15th at Bethel University in St. Paul. The New London and Spicer Legion and Auxiliaries sponsored 4 students to the Boys and Girls County event.

Your help is still needed to reach our membership goal of 205. We are short 5 members. Please call Mary Kuperus, to receive an enrollment application or stop at the legion to get one.

Thank you to the auxiliary women who have completed 13 pair of knitted slippers, 12 heart pillows, and 5 utility bags. Sue Anderson, Field Service chairman, has taken these items to the Minneapolis V.A.

Our May meeting will be a memorial service honoring one deceased member Marion Dahlberg. She was a charter member of the auxiliary. Blessed be her memory and assistance she gave our organization.

The June 8th fishing derby raffle tickets are available for volunteers to sell. Please call Sandy Wersal or Sandy George, chairmen, to help sell tickets at the Legion prior to the event.

On June 8th, we are also hosting the Spring District Convention. The auxiliary event will be at the Peace Church which will require volunteer help. A kitchen shower for the Fisher House at the Minneapolis V.A. will be held at the convention. Their needs are: disposable dish cloths, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, microwave popcorn, personal care items, laundry soap, dryer sheets, dishwashing detergent, Kleenex, hot chocolate mix, individual servings of cereals (hot or cold), canned soups, jelly, jams, peanut butter, paper plates, napkins, paper towels, pens, Holiday or SA gas cards, new DVD’s, disposable cups and gift certificates to Target, and Wal-Mart.

Pray for our active military serving our country as well as all Veterans who have graciously served home and abroad.

                        Respectfully Submitted,
               Marlys Jacobson- Aux. President
